Brian Connolly Named Regional Leader of Science + Technology for HOK in London

This move strengthens HOK’s commitment to delivering innovative research environments across the United Kingdom, Europe and the Middle East. Connolly’s leadership will support the firm’s growing team of specialists designing advanced research facilities and laboratories.
With more than 20 years’ experience, Connolly is a recognised expert in designing complex research environments for corporations, universities and government agencies. He has particular expertise in high-containment biological research facilities (BRF/BSU), where safety, security and operational efficiency are paramount. He is currently leading the design of a large confidential government research facility in the UK.
“Research environments must do more than serve a function—they must enable scientists to push the boundaries of discovery,” said Connolly. “I look forward to working with our London team to create adaptable, efficient facilities that evolve with science itself and enable groundbreaking research.”
“Brian’s promotion recognises his exceptional ability to deliver sophisticated research environments that propel scientific discovery forward,” said Daniel Hajjar, managing principal of HOK’s London studio. “His deep understanding of laboratory planning, containment design and regulated environments will be invaluable as we continue to grow our Science + Technology practice in this region.”
“Brian brings a unique combination of technical expertise and creative problem-solving to complex research facilities,” added Randy Kray, AIA, OAA, MAA, director of HOK’s Science + Technology practice. “His leadership will be instrumental in delivering innovative solutions for our clients across Europe and the Middle East.”
As regional leader, Connolly will drive project pursuits and oversee the delivery of world-class science and technology projects throughout the region. He will work alongside Shem Sacewicz, ARB, LEED GA, RIBA, senior lab planner, and Alan Addison, ARUK, RIBA, senior project manager, both of whom bring strong technical and project delivery skills.
A registered architect with the Architects Registration Board (ARB) and member of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), Connolly specialises in both new construction and renovation projects, including work on listed and historically sensitive sites. His background in architectural engineering and deep understanding of regulatory processes enable him to navigate complex approvals while designing research spaces that advance scientific discovery and operational excellence. He has extensive experience managing phased projects on operational research sites.
Connolly earned his architectural qualifications from the University of Westminster, London, and holds a First Class Honours B.Sc. in Architectural Engineering, for which he was awarded the Hubert Sands Memorial Medal and nominated for the RIBA Bronze Medal.
